DESIGN PROCESS

Defining the Problem

RIT currently hosts all wellness information on an outdated webpage. Facility information is included in PDF format on the website. I started the design process by thinking about how I could make this a better interactive experience for RIT students.

Setting Project Goals

  • Inclusive

Creating a visual language that reflects the diversity of the student body at RIT

  • Encouraging

Designing the experience to be a safe space for new gym-goers and students to explore the fitness facilities on campus

  • Efficent

Crafting an experience that is flexible and meets student’s needs

CRAFTING PERSONAS

The Novice

I am a freshman and a newcomer to the gym. I mostly go with friends because they show me how to use gym equipment. I want to learn how to properly work out, but I can not afford a personal trainer to show me the ropes.

CRAFTING PERSONAS

The Goal Setter

I am a busy student that wants to learn how to lift weights at the gym. I am highly motivated to get stronger and build muscles. I do not have a lot of time in my day to work out, so I need shorter workouts at a high-intensity rate.

Creating Wireframes

I started by roughly blocking out the flow of the content on each page of the app. I knew that I wanted to create a landing page with a lot of different ways to engage with the content.

Visual Style

When developing the visual language of the app, I was inspired by the drink Gatorade, specifically “Cool Blue” in terms of color. This drink is energizing, refreshing, and associated with athletics, which is how I wanted to convey the design elements in the app.

It’s Come a Long Way Since 2019

I actually began this project my junior year in college in 2019. At the time, I struggled with turning my ideas into fully fleshed-out design concepts. These are the final designs that I presented at the time. I got some feedback from peers that the screens felt more like wireframes. The critique I received then and my work experience now as a UX designer guided me when I decided to redo this project in 2021.

Thank you for checking out my work!
